How does my renter get set up to pay?

Before your renter can send their first payment, you need to add your bank account and invite your renter to pay. After your bank has been verified, it'll be on the renter to accept your invitation and send their payments to you. To get started and to help guide your renter to complete their first payment, refer to the sections below.

Enabling payments for your renter

Set up a receiving bank account for rent collection

Refer to our article: How do I receive payments on Apartments.com? for more information on setting up a bank account for rent collection.

Invite your renter to pay

During the process of setting up a bank account outlined in the article above, you will be prompted to invite your renter to pay through Apartments.com. All the renter has to do to get started is to select the link in their invitation email.

Note: Verify your renter uses the same email address they accepted your invite with when signing up.

Your renter adds a payment method

At this point in the process, it is up to your renter to finish the setup process and make their first payment.

Your renter will need to use a US-based checking account, credit card, debit card, or Google Pay to send payments through Apartments.com. If they use a credit card, debit card, or Google Pay they'll be ready to pay immediately. If they add a checking account by entering their account and routing number, they'll need to verify the account before we can process their payments.

Your renter schedules a payment

After their payment account has been added, your renter will see a Make Payment button on their ledger. From there they can:

  • Set up their payment of the move-in costs (or their portion, if they have roommates)
  • Set up auto-pay for their monthly rent (or their portion of the rent, if they have roommates)
  • Pick the day of the month they'd like to send their rent auto-pay each month

Checking your renter's progress

You can monitor each renter's progress from within the Payers tab of your rent collection. From there, you can see whether your renters are ready to pay or not, and why. You can also re-send their invite if they haven't signed up yet by selecting Reinvite.
