Local Fair Housing Laws: Use of eviction reports

In the past few years, urban city councils across the U.S. have created laws defining new protections around how housing providers select renters. 

Across New York State, laws prohibit property owners and managers from using any past or current eviction actions as part of the evaluation of a rental application. Learn more about this law

What does this mean for you? 

In accordance with the law, Apartments.com does not run eviction reports for applications to properties in New York State. 

If I manage properties outside of New York State, will eviction reports be included?

Yes. If you receive applications to properties in jurisdictions where housing providers are allowed to consider eviction report information, Apartments.com will run eviction reports for the associated applications.
